Cœur, airs de cour in the 16th century

Returning to the roots of our repertoire, the Cœur programme sets to music the hardships and heartache of love.

The air de cour allows performers to display a wide range of emotions, from passionate ecstasy to scorned love. Emerging at the end of the Renaissance, the “music of princes” is populated by a host of characters, including bashful lovers, debauched youths and comical old women. Both deeply moving and riotously funny, this repertoire is performed by Le Poème Harmonique with a quartet of exceptional singers.
